James III & Connor Ratliff: A Star Wars Story
Our guests this episode are James III (who has written for The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish, All That, and Adam Ruin’s Everything) and Connor Ratliff (who performs as George Lucas on The George Lucas Talk Show). Together they host the hilarious Tiny Dinos podcast!
But these two also do so much more than science!
Connor stars in the new documentary I’m “George Lucas” which Yub Nub co-hosts Tim and Greg got to see at a fancy premiere in Manhattan! It’s great! Get screening info here.
And James has his own comic book company, Rule of III, Inc — with an incredible comic of his own creation called Junior. Get more info about THAT here.
In the episode, we dive into the various reasons they became enamored by the concept of George Lucas.
Discussion Highlights:
Every creative person identifies with Lucas at some point in their career:
James III describes feeling connected to George Lucas after creating his own comic book/production company:
I have never felt for George Lucas more than deciding I’m going to make stuff and have my name be what’s splattered on top of it…
- James III (Yub Nub, 2024)
What if George Lucas leaned into Jar Jar in episodes II-III?:
Connor Ratliff wishes George Lucas stuck with his original title for Episode II which REALLY WAS Jar Jar’s Great Adventure.
These are weird movies that accidentally became normal.
- Connor Ratliff (Yub Nub, 2024)
Darth Vader… the ultimate middle manager:
After an epic rant from Connor on how un-scary Darth Vader is in the original trilogy, Jim points out that Darth Vader is less of the “ultimate bad guy” and more of the “ultimate middle manager.”
Yeah, put Darth Vader on the do not hire list. I don’t think there’s a worse employee in the history of movies than Darth Vader.
- Connor Ratliff (Yub Nub, 2024)
Which, naturally, reminds us of that time Dwight Schrute’s force awakened…

What’s “Yubbing” Our “Nubs”
BOOK: George Lucas: A Life by Brian Jay Jones
Jim has been diving into this fantastic biography of George Lucas over the course of this season. And so can you! Wait… are we starting a book club?
MUSIC: TK421 by Lenny Kravitz
Tim is thrilled that Lenny Kravitz’s new album featuring the Star Wars reference-heavy song “TK421” has finally been released! This music video is probably NSFW (which sounds like a stormtrooper name) — but it definitely adds to the confusion over why Kravitz dedicated this song to a Stormtrooper from A New Hope. Wait… the album is called Blue Electric Light… it’s all coming together now.
Want more from us?! Tim and Jim were recent guests on the Somewhere in the Ring podcast! We had a blast connecting the dots between wrestling and Star Wars with Andrew Sanford and Ryan Sprague!
